2025 "Nobby The Sweep" Sponsored Phelp Shield

The club hosted its annual drawn rinks tournament on Sunday 8th June 2025. This event was once again sponsored by Paul “Nobby The Sweep” Green.

32 members were drawn into 8 teams with each team being allocated an Express Lifts works team that has previously won the competition. This is the oldest club competition dating as far back as 1923. The represented teams were Accounts, Despatch, Drawing Office Plus, Gear Shop, Machine Shop, Maintenance, Sales and Stores.

The 8 teams were split into two groups of 4 teams with the top two teams in each group progressing through to the semi finals, the 3rd place team qualifying for a 5th and 6th place play off and the teams bottom of the group playing off in the Wooden Spoon play off with the losing team being awarded the prestigious Wooden Spoon. The Semi-final winners then played a final in a bid to be named the 2025 Phelp Shield Winners.

The day included a spider (congratulations to winner Steve Dolby), a BBQ and raffle amongst prizes being awarded to the winner and wooden spoon winners, courtesy of “Nobby The Sweep”.

The Winners were the Gear Shop team of Steve Lemon, Val Hay, Ben Carter and Janet Swift.

The Runners Up were the Maintenance team of Ella McKain, Derek White, Steve Dolby and John Carter.

The two losing Semi Finalist teams were the Sales team of Gary Thornton, Mike Brinklow, Wendy Keane and Neil Rolfe and the Accounts team of Lily Coles, Stuart Tonge, Jack Parker and Paul Kennedy.

The 5th place team were the Drawing Office Plus team of Tony Lemon, Sandra Blunt, Connor Dolby and Mick Swift.

The 6th Place team were the Stores team of Kirk Riley, John Moules, Danny Mills and Richard Lemon.

The 7th place team were the Machine Shop Team of Samuel Chappell, Jude Thornton, Ian Coles and Martin Johnson.

The prestigious wooden spoon winners were the Despatch team of Tony Warren, Tracey Coles, Andy Goram and Sean Rowlands.

Special thanks go to Paul for providing the food and prizes and sponsoring the event, to John's son Stephen for running the BBQ and to Laura for her assistance in organising the competition, taking photographs and running the raffle along with the assistance of Linda.

Thank you to all who assisted with setting up and packing away during the event.

This was another successful event which raised £370.00 for club funds.
